Project Objective

The overall objective of the project is to increase livelihood resilience and the adaptive capacity of 1200 vulnerable farming families against the negative impact of climate change in Rarhdistrict (semi-arid region of West Bengal).1200 families in Purulia and Jhargram districts are adopting climate-adaptive livelihood and food security practices and coping with the negative impacts of climate change.20 target communities are strengthened in their local self-organization, in their capacities and in their awareness of environmental protection and climate change (adaption).

Increasing livelihood resilience and adaptive capacity of 1200 vulnerable farming families against the negative impact of climate change in Rarh districts (semi-arid region) of West Bengal.

Households undertake risk reduction measures and practices to minimize negative impacts of climate change related to their livelihood.

Community based institutions are strengthened and are able to access different Govt. schemes and services to adapt with climate change impacts

Training and capacity building of the rural households on sustainable natural resource management (NRM), along with nutrition garden, livestock management, fishery, nutritional education, financial literacy (FL) and income generation programmes (IGPs).

Improvement of sustainable soil and water conservation measures, plantation work, and social forestry activities are being conducted.

Model farms for integrated farming system (IFS) and support for promotion of ecological farming.

Improvement of nutrition garden, management of livestock and diversification of livelihoods in both on-farm and off- farm.

Improvement of input production infrastructure, such as compost, vermicompost, and organic manure.

Setting up of an automated weather station (AWD) and an agro advisory board for the dissemination of weather forecasts and agricultural recommendations.

Establishment of energy-efficient models, which include bio-gas and smokeless chullah.
